More travels to nowhere

And how removing yourself physically from the everyday creates an illuminated sideways shift in your future pathway.

Rest. Stop. Swim. Listen to the incredible bird song and watch curlews and squeaky birds (oyster catchers). Perhaps walk to some nearby falls for another dip. Eat. Light the fire and keep the midges at bay. Make more tea.

I have indeed been camping again. In a field with nothing but a river (and a portaloo), surrounded by miles of nothingness in vast amounts. Bliss. And friends, beautiful friends. But the time in between, the liminal time, the space created is where something happens.

When you remove yourself from the everyday hustle of life and work, it’s not hard to wonder why are lives are so filled with ‘stuff’ and what all that stuff is about. Is it really necessary? How much of it can we really do without?

I’ve returned with a little more determination to cull not just the physical clutter but the mental clutter, the business clutter, the email clutter, and allow - make - create more time to simply be and to allow space to return back to my core being.

This has been a gentle and beautiful stopping point, a proper full stop, with a sideways shift in the space that was created. Those little shifts in our linear pathways - in between times, stoppage, reflection - are so important in our personal and professional progress. They light the way forward with a new integrity.

I’m lucky enough to live less than an hour from this place, and lucky enough to run a venue that offers similar ‘developmental stoppage opportunities’ for leaders and professionals. I intend to bring this peaceful learning more often to the coaching sessions here and embed the pause more deliberately in the courses and retreats I run in addition to coaching / walking up the local fells. .

And go camping more often.

If this sounds like what you need give me a call, the pause and reflect is a bigger part of the journey than we often realise.
