Transitions…..

September - transition time. New beginnings. Seasons change.

Kids are nearly back to school for some, summer is closing off and the evenings are getting a little chillier here in the UK.

How does September land for you? Do you see it as a new start and are excited for project launches or sprints?
Or is there little change afoot?

Or - is it a time for rest, rather than ramping it up? And is that a radical thing to say?

transition

/tranˈzɪʃn/

A transition is the process or period of changing from one state, form, or condition to another.

………

Transitions require readjustment - and that in turn requires a pause, a reflect and a reset. A kind of backward motion before the full leap forward - like a cat gathering itself before it springs onto a fence.

In the transition is a liminal time - a ‘time in between’ - where we are neither in one state or the next, and when we use this liminal space to reflect and gather our inner spaces together something powerful can be harnessed - it’s where magic and growth can happen.

(I love liminal spaces incidentally, those times where you are ‘in between’, like waiting for a train.. un-programmed, beautiful wonderlands where there is no agenda or formula and untapped creative musings can creep into the stillness….). I digress!

My point is for us to allow ourselves to honour this transitional time, give it space. Allow the ‘liminal gap’ to be not time-that-needs-filling, but a breathing space to rest momentarily, to acknowledge what’s been and what is to come and enjoy the stillness of noticing.

I’ve learned that using transition times, no matter how small, can be enormously nourishing and reaps rewards in both practical and productive terms - in energy, capacity, focus and clarity.

When we miss the pause we miss out on so much.

Here’s some tips for times of transition:

>> Build in an intentional pause to acknowledge the transition - where you were and what’s to come (going for a walk or outdoors & movement is great)

>> Keep basic routines going and simple daily habits to regulate and support your nervous system

>> Connect with other humans for support, they are there to help

>> Accept it may bring challenges and that’s OK - smile at your wins (no matter how small) and notice your growth

Journalling and prompted writing is an excellent way to navigate change - coaching can be the ultra support.

For more support with transitions come and have a coffee.
