What is your version of brilliance?
What does brilliance mean for you? Let's explore how the Zone of Brilliance™ is unique for each of us, and our individual frameworks will differ according to our own ambitions, inspirations and north stars.
Picture the scene - a cold and frosty morning over the Christmas holidays, walking with an old school friend. On explaining the Zone of Brilliance™ my friend says ‘well I don’t feel like I need a Zone of Brilliance™ now. Perhaps I did when I started out (on my professional journey) and I was ambitious, but I’ve now founded and exited several successful companies and don’t have that same need to prove myself anymore, I’m quite happy with my ideas of running a small project and making sure I’m healthy in the next chapter of my life.’
Well I was temporarily flummoxed and it led me to ponder what we all mean by ‘brilliance’.
For my friend this was initially about striving for the peak of professional ambition, proving their worth through being successful in business. But it’s not just about rising to the top of the professional ladder, if that’s not your direction or purpose in life.
The Zone of Brilliance™ all about striving to be your brilliant self, the version of you that is in flow, in your element, and it is unique for us all for we all have different goals, ambitions, inspirations and north stars.
Here's some examples:
For some of my artistic clients brilliance might mean producing a concept, physical work or idea that really works and resonates with others. Brilliance might mean creating beauty. Being in their Zone of Brilliance™ might mean creating a practice that is financially viable and supports the important part - making the work.
For some of my purpose-driven B-Corp clients, brilliance could mean building partnerships and successfully delivering projects that make impact, and the satisfaction and fulfilment they gain in the process. Being in their Zone of Brilliance™ means they have a framework that allows them to deliver with impact.
For my regenerative leaders Brilliance might mean operating their business in a way that demonstrates sustainable and regenerative systems are viable options that don’t deplete the planet, natural resources or human capacity. Their Zone of Brilliance™ might appear as SOPs by which to operate, allowing their business and wellbeing to flourish.
So I asked my friend what they wanted next for themselves in the next chapter of life, and that was to be happy and healthy, which they then described as living in a way that would support health, wellbeing and intellectual ‘aliveness’ - supported by mental and physical fitness, living in the moment, plant based diet, lots of outdoors and connecting to the landscape we’d be lucky enough to grow up in.
And that is their pathway to brilliance, their framework, their container for building a desirable ‘Zone’.
It’s fascinating to me how language directs our attention. So when I say the word ‘brilliance’ what does it mean to you? What would you be doing in your Zone of Brilliance™ ? And what frameworks will you engineer to support this?
