Excellent leadership starts with awareness

We don’t have a lot of time on this planet, so it’s a given that we want to spend it being the best version of ourselves that we can, right?

We want to be the nicest person, to be loved and remembered for something good.

Time is a strange concept. A life time is even stranger. How long is a lifetime? Short enough - it goes in the ‘blink of an eye’. And also long enough to make an impact.

How are you going to spend this lifetime? That’s how the saying goes but let’s change a word there. How are you going to use it? How are you going to honour it? How are you going to create it?

How often do you wake up and consider this one day in its relationship to your entire lifetime?

I am simply curious.

This morning I had a dream that I was getting on a plane and saying goody to my mum. She also got on the plane but then wouldn’t get off. The doors closed and she came with me. She didn’t want to go, she didn’t want to leave me .

I lost my mum last May, and to be honest I have felt like she’s still here all around. Bigging me up and encouraging me to follow my dreams, be my best, and make my impact in the world. She reminds me about the why - reminds me of my purpose. What its all for.

When I ask myself ‘What’s important?’ (as my clients will know, a favourite coaching question) it is a greater mission that drives who I want to be and how I show up.

Because the world is not the great place we wish it to be - and for this we ALL have a responsibility. We have a responsibility to the world, to our communities, to our families and we also have a responsibility to our selves - to show up, be the best person we can be so that we too can create our positive impact in the world.

The world needs our positive impact - this might show up as Greta Thunberg and Jacinda Ardern, and it can also show up in us - simply in saying hello to the person on the street, asking after a colleague, showing interest in someone else’s life, giving time. All of our acts cause a ripple effect - they affect how the next person shows up. But we are so often caught up in our own worlds we miss this small but vital opportunity to create a positive ripple effect.

We all have the capability to do this - do the inner work, show up as our best selves, and create a positive impact.

This is what it comes down to for me - to support those wishing to create their positive impact.

Excellent leadership starts with personal awareness.

So when you wake in the morning think of that day not in isolation but in context to your short or long life. How are you going to show up? How are you making your positive impact? What support and encouragement do you need to discover that amazing journey?

If this resonates with your journey give me a call and let’s chat - I’d love to hear about your postive impact stories.
